Sophie McManus

Based in Greenwich, London, I founded SMA at the beginning of 2021 to offer bespoke and personalised architecture and interior design services tailored to you and your budget. These include feasibility studies, planning applications, Building Control, construction drawings, and construction management. I enjoy working closely with clients, getting to know them, and helping them create something that truly ‘fits’ their needs.

With a background in art, design, and urban planning—combined with over a decade of experience delivering domestic and commercial projects across the UK and Europe—I am passionate about innovative, context-sensitive design. My aim is to create meaningful places, not just spaces.

Everyone should experience buildings that work for them and be empowered to help design their surroundings.

Although SMA is primarily led by me, I work closely with a carefully selected network of trusted professionals—including party wall surveyors, measured surveyors, contractors, subcontractors, planning consultants, and other specialists often needed for complex projects such as new builds. This network allows me to offer clients the best value and service, drawing on collaborators whose costs, reliability, and quality I know well from past successful projects. I am always exploring new partnerships to ensure I provide the most cost-effective solutions tailored to each client’s needs

Current projects include new-build homes, residential extensions, and both small- and large-scale renovations involving significant structural alterations, as well as outbuildings such as garden offices and garden rooms. SMA offers a comprehensive range of services, from traditional architectural design to bespoke solutions. We also provide cost-effective support to private individuals and local businesses with common planning and regulatory matters, including retrospective planning applications, change of use, signage, and Building Control submissions.
