Renovation of an Arts & Crafts home - Unifying Old and New
A full design service, from start to completion
This Bromley conservation area home began with historic façades that had been adapted and extended over time in a mix of styles.
Our work brought those layers together - connecting key spaces externally through new glazing and internally by opening up walls, then tying everything together with consistent architectural and interior detailing.
The focus was on three main living spaces - the kitchen, dining and living areas - supported by the bar, utility, laundry and side access. By refining structure, layout and detailing, we created a sequence of warm, well-defined rooms that talk to each other, allowing for both connection and cosiness.
Create new features that work harder to connect key spaces,
using glazing outside and structural openings and detailing inside.
Unifying inside and out
Externally, large glazed openings now link the rear spaces and create a stronger relationship with the garden. Internally, new openings and joinery elements shape a visual and spatial flow between rooms while maintaining a sense of intimacy.
Throughout, the design balances generosity and warmth - spaces that feel connected and open but still comfortable and "at home."
Designing with purpose
This was a full design service from feasibility to completion, combining architectural and interior design. We began with an early feasibility stage that explored how the family used the house day-to-day, mapping light, views and flow, and testing different layouts in 3D.
Those models helped the clients understand how the spaces would interact, what structural changes were truly necessary, and where investment would bring the greatest impact.
Use focal points and materials
to give every space a sense of purpose.
A coherent architectural language
As the design developed, consistent details such as cornicing, joinery profiles, door colours and architraves were used to bring unity to the whole property. This quiet repetition ties the newly refurbished spaces back to the house's historic character, giving it continuity without pastiche.
Defining a personal interior style
Alongside the architectural design, we helped our clients refine and define their own interior style - choosing materials, colours and textures that felt right for them and true to the property.
Conversations about how they live, what they value and even which materials they enjoy handling helped us build a palette that feels authentic and timeless. That process gave the clients a toolkit they can continue to use as they renovate other rooms, with clarity and confidence.
Create spaces that talk to each other
with warmth and definition.
In the end
The result is a coherent, characterful home that now feels like one complete story - historic and modern elements unified through thoughtful design and detailing.
This project is a testament to what a full architectural and interior design service can achieve: balance, warmth, and a sense of home that feels personal and enduring.
