New-Build House Between Boundaries in a Greenwich Conservation Area

  • Between Boundaries is a new-build proposal within the Greenwich Conservation Area, designed for a disused corner site that sits at the transition between the protected historic streetscape and a neighbouring non-conservation area. The plot’s long, underused outbuildings offered minimal function and had left the garden largely ungreened. The proposal replaces these structures with a modest two-storey dwelling that reads as a subservient building at the rear of the existing family house. By working carefully with the level change, the design minimises massing and visual impact from the street, preserving the character and rhythm of the conservation area. Despite strong planning sensitivities, the scheme offers a balanced response - one that restores purpose to a disused plot while maintaining the quiet hierarchy and material language that define the area.
