A zinc and glass side extension in the London Borough of Ealing - defined by a stepped glazed roof and minimal detailing that turn planning constraints into an elegant play of light and form.

Located on Twyford Avenue in the London Borough of Ealing, Stepped in Light replaces a dated kitchen and utility room with a bright new dining space that connects seamlessly to the main house. Planning restrictions limited the boundary height to 2.5 metres - a challenge that became central to the design. The stepped glazed roof introduces light and rhythm, allowing the new addition to feel generous and uplifting despite its constrained height. Zinc detailing and a single continuous wall line give the structure clarity and calm, while brick detailing inside links the new space back to the original house. The result is a refined, functional addition that resolves the home’s layout while maximising daylight.
